Substitute Andy Cannon was the man who scored the winner for the visitors, with the midfielder scoring just 36 seconds after his introduction at the break.

The win is the Cowleys’ fourth in a row since they replaced Kenny Jackett in the Fratton Park hot seat last month – a run of form which sees Pompey now occupy fourth place in the table.

However, the Blues had to claim victory the hard way at the DW Stadium, with the hosts battling for their lives to remain in the divisions.

Here’s what fans on Twitter had to say about the important victory…

@JAudley89: 2 big performances from Pompey over the Easter weekend! 4 wins out of 4 for the Cows!

Been dominated at times by the opposition but can’t remember Craig Mac having to make a proper save to make in the 2 games!

Up the Pompey Moos!!!

@mattclementspfc: 4 from 4 get in there @Pompey. Cowleys doing fantastically so far.

@Samalaaarr: That was a tough watch but all things considered a good win.

Fair play to Wigan they played some decent stuff but Craig didn’t have to make a save.

Some goal by Andy Cannon, what a mooment for him.

@gregpfc: Had to be done - 3 points the most important thing about that.

Showed the Cowley management team able to win ugly if needed.

Well done #Pompey great spirit and hard work.

@pompey0: Pompey I'll take that! Very happy Pompey, just a shame Jackett was not fired earlier!

@pompeyjacques: An incredibly resilient performance from Pompey resulting in a 4th win on the bounce under the blues brothers.

Not totally convincing, but we found a way to win on a difficult surface against a very physical Wigan side.

Cannon with a superbly taken goal.

@TheChief657: Pretty poor today, had to scrap for every minute of that game. Another 3 points in the bag though.

@NeilNutbean: Think of the scenes if fans are allowed back for the playoffs. might actually win a playoff game this time. #Pompey.

@McinnesOliver: This is aging better than I thought it would.

@PompeyViking62: Another Pompey victory, the inspired super sub Andy Cannon with a namesake effort from range to seal the victory.

Potentially even more impressive, every single Wigan ball into the box in the second half was met and cleared with interest by an orange shirt. Great stuff.
