And MacAnthony, a staunch supporter of completing the season, highlighted the significance of yesterday’s briefing material from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) being passed down to clubs.

That came with the DCMS publishing detailed information on elite sport returning to training amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

America-based MacAnthony pointed towards a key meeting between clubs on Friday to decide the way forward for the three divisions outside of the Premier League.

Pompey’s players are supporting a return to complete the season and MacAnthony added his football staff are in the same camp.

He tweeted: ‘Lots (of) good intel today including 47 page guidance on how to open training ground safely etc and testing (private testing not taking from those who need it).

‘Big owners meeting Friday 4.30am my time in the morning. Should be fun.

‘Our football staff excited about getting back to work.’
