Dan Butler and the outstanding Toney both netted in this afternoon’s 2-0 loss at promotion rivals Posh.

It was a sobering experience for Kenny Jackett’s men, who produced a poor performance throughout, with Alex Bass keeping down the scoreline.

The outcome is a third successive away defeat to promotion contenders, following losses at Coventry and Fleetwood.

And Williams conceded Pompey failed to produce a passing performance to trouble Darren Ferguson’s impressive side.

He said: ‘We didn’t play great, but usually when that happens we still get a result.

‘Obviously it’s a third away game in a row we haven’t scored, so we’re not doing enough going forward.

‘I don’t think Peterborough were unbelievable, definitely beatable, but we didn’t create enough and probably didn’t defend well enough.

‘We could have passed the ball a bit more, there wasn’t enough forward combination play, not a lot of passing from defence to midfield and midfield to our strikers.

‘It wasn’t really our day, we huffed and puffed, but just couldn’t really string enough passes together.

‘We also didn't make our spare man count with the full-backs and didn’t get it out to them enough. We did it a couple of times in the second half and it really did cause them a problem, but we just didn’t do that enough.

‘Toney was a handful, he has a good touch, is strong, wins nearly every header, and has two or three players running off him every time. Even if it comes off his shin it will fall to one of the other boys.’
