The Salford City boss is adamant his men are gunning for victory in the Leasing.com Trophy final, and not content with soaking up the occasion at the home of football.

The outfit, which is part-owned by Manchester United’s legendary Class of ‘92, sealed their final spot with a penalty shootout win over Newport County last night.

Now the outfit who were playing in football’s ninth tier when Pompey won the FA Cup in 2008 will provide the opposition for Kenny Jackett’s men on April 5.

And, with just a single division now separating the clubs, Alexander vowed Salford are coming to win.

He told Sky Sports: ‘I wasn’t watching (Pompey v Exeter). I was preparing for the game.

‘We’ll do our analysis when it comes around but we know going to Wembley and going to a final is a fantastic occasion.

‘It’s about winning. I said before this (Newport) we’ve got two more games to get to where we want.

‘The prize isn’t Wembley, the prize is winning the final and winning the competition.

‘So we’ve got to do it again and prepare for a real, tough challenge.

‘They won it last year and are a massive club with a fantastic manager in Kenny Jackett.

‘So the challenge is there for us, but we’ve overcome some real big challenges this season in this competition - and there’s one more to go.’
