'See where it takes me' - Former Portsmouth, Brighton and Ipswich defender Adam Webster confirms link up with club
Former Pompey ad Brighton defender Adam Webster is stepping up his recovery from a knee injury
Free-agent Adam Webster is back on the training pitch - just days after it was revealed the door was open for a potential Pompey return.
The Blues Academy graduate has confirmed he has linked up with a club as he enters the final stages of his recovery from an ACL injury he suffered while on a Spanish training camp with former club Brighton, whom he left in the summer, in July 2025.
The 31-year-old has been training with the unnamed club’s under-21s for the past 7-10 days as he aims to rediscover his fitness and sharpness after 15 frustrating and lonely months spent on the sidelines.
The link-up has left the central defender ‘giddy’ with excitement as he once again experiences being in and around a team environment.
But The News understands it is not Pompey who the defender has teamed up with at this moment in time.
Speaking on BBC 5 LIve’s Monday Night Club, the West Witterings-based defender said: ‘(I’m) feeling really good at the minute.
‘I've just started training with a team, like an under-21s team, albeit. But still it's obviously exposure to proper football again, so that sort of happened in the last week, 10 days, so that's been really nice.
‘It's been a long period, frustrating period, so I've been a bit giddy the last week or so because I’ve actually been playing football again and being around in a team environment, which is really nice.
‘So now it's just about, obviously, getting back fully fit, match fit and seeing where that takes me.’
Mousinho: ‘Something we’d definitely look at’
It was The News who first revealed that both Pompey and Webster were keen to work together as the centre-back embarks on his return from injury.
Blues head coach John Mousinho then corroborated our exclusive by admitting it was something he and the club were looking to explore.
Since then, though, the Blues have been focused on their busy Championship schedule, with Tuesday night’s trip to Wolves their fourth game in 10 days.
Next week will provide Pompey’s first teamers with their first full week of training as a collective since before the international break.
Regardless, Webster is focused on getting himself fit, before seeing what opportunities might arise for him.
The former £20m defender, who made 91 appearances for the Blues before moving to Ipswich for £750,000 in 2016, added: ‘I'm not sure (what the future holds), to be honest.
‘I'm trying not to think too much about it because, you know, obviously you never know. There could be injuries that come up and then teams need a defender.
‘I just need to control what I can control and try to get myself as fit as quickly as possible, as match fit, obviously. There is a difference.
‘Obviously, I've been out for over a year, so yeah, I just need to tick it off and just wait for the right opportunity.’
