Striker who netted winning spot-kick against Sunderland in Checkatrade Trophy final looks set for Portsmouth exit door

The striker’s contract is soon to expire at Fratton Park, having penned a short-term extension to be available for the League One play-off campaign.

The Blues’ promotion bid is now over, though, following their penalty shootout loss to Oxford United in the semi-finals on Monday evening.

Hawkins came off the bench in extra-time of the second leg at the Kassam Stadium and scored a spot-kick during the 5-4 shootout defeat.

Pompey will announce their retained list for the 2020-21 campaign in the near future, with Hawkins one of seven players who is out of contract.

It’s been a difficult season for the ex-Dagenman man.

Several injuries, coupled with falling behind John Marquis and Ellis Harrison in the striking pecking order, restricted him to just 13 appearances.

Now Hawkins’ partner has hinted he’s set to end his time on the south coast.

Posting a video of his penalty on her Instagram account, which was shared by the forward on his own feed, she mentioned how Hawkins was ‘ending your three years with a goal’.

The 28-year-old arrived at Pompey from Dagenham & Redbridge for an undisclosed fee in August 2017.

In total, Hawkins has netted 18 times in 96 Blues appearances.

He also bagged the winning spot-kick in Pompey’s Checkatrade Trophy final triumph over Sunderland at Wembley last season.
