However, there’ll also be one small issue that will refuse to go away. An itch, if you like, that the Blues know will eventually have to be scratched!
We’re, of course, talking contracts and those players who could potentially leave Fratton Park at the end of the season - either through their own volition or that of the club.
Historically, it’s not a topic the Blues like to engage with while their league status remains fluid. Despite being nailed on for promotion as last season drew to a close, the narrative was to remain focused on securing the title, then decide players’ futures.
That caused a bit of a stir when decisions were eventualy made public in May - and there’s every possibility the same could happen again at the end of this campaign, with seven contracted players due to see their deals expire and three loanees also due to depart.
But who are those players already into the final 12 months of their Fratton Park contracts? And who could the Blues potentially keep or eventually allow to leave for free?
Of course, where the Blues end the current campaign will have a massive bearing on what’s decided. But here’s the current situation as things stand.

5. Tom Lowery
You have to feel for the former Crewe midfielder. He's clearly got talent, but injuries have hampered his ability to really make an impact at Fratton Park. It wouldn't surprise anyone if he leaves in January, with the 26-year-old highly unlikely to force his way into the Blues' 25-man squad list. If he remains for some reason, it will only be until the end of the season, however as he runs down his contract. Photo: Jason Brown

6. Colby Bishop
Pompey's top scorer over the past two seasons made a dramatic goalscoring return to first-team action last weekend against Preston. Seeing his name on the team-sheet was a massive shock given the fact he underwent heart surgery in August. With 46 goals in 101 appearances for Pompey it would be another massive shock if the Blues didn't take up the 12-month option on his current contract. | National World

The on-loan West Ham youngster is steadily showing he has the potential to be another rising star that the Blues will constantly be linked with once his temporary stay at Fratton Park comes to a conclusion in the summer. However, like Robertson. Kamara & Co, his stock is only going to rise, which could spell bad news for the Blues! | National World

8. Kusini Yengi
The Aussie is slowly but surely getting his season back on track after a stop-start beginning to the campaign. He's yet to score this term, and while the return of Colby Bishop will increase competition for game time, it might also help to bring out the best in the striker. Pompey have the option to extend Yengi's contract by a further 12 months. Even if he struggles to make the impact many of us expect or hope him to do this term, the triggering of that clause is nailed on as the Blues will look to protect their asset. | National World
