Wage cap dilemma: The 11 players now in the final year of their Portsmouth contracts

There were some big-name departures from Pompey at the end of the season.

The likes of Brett Pitman and Oli Hawkins were allowed to leave following the expiry of their contracts.

Meanwhile, Christian Burgess departed on a free transfer after he agreed to join Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in Belguim.

The defender turned down the offer of a new Blues deal in favour of a new challenge elsewhere – something that Nathan Thompson chose to do a year earlier after he allowed his contract to run down.

In total, seven players – not including those on loan – have left Fratton Park since the season came to an end at the Kassam Stadium, with the club still negotiating a new deal with Lee Brown.

However, that figure could be even higher next summer, with 11 players now in the final year of their Pompey deals.

Wage cap proposals will most likely make it harder for Pompey to negotiate deals for any player they want to keep.

So here are the XI players who are now less than 12 months away from being possible transfer transfers – unless the Blues can find a way of keeping them.
