The 13 Championship players on brink of automatic bans - including Burnley, Blackburn & Leeds United bad boys

Pompey’s upcoming opponents will be without star figure through red card suspension

Pompey will soon continue their pursuit for their first win of the 2024/25 campaign as they prepare to travel up to London for their weekend clash against Queens Park Rangers.

Both the Blues and QPR currently sit in the relegation spots of the Championship but while the Rs have secured one win in their opening nine matches, the Fratton Park side will hope their winless streak ends this weekend.

The Blues have struggled significantly in keeping up with the pace of their new league but there is one version of the EFL second-tier table in which they find themselves towards the top. John Mousinho’s squad have been shown 24 yellow cards so far this season, the fourth highest in the league with Preston North End at the top on 29 yellow cards.

Pompey can boast, however, that no player is currently at risk of suspension with many of their players currently only on two yellows. Ten Blues stars - including club captain Marlon Pack, new arrivals Jordan Williams, Josh Murphy and Harvey Blair and goalkeeper Will Norris - have all been shown two yellows for respective fouls but remain at no risk of soon having to serve a one-match ban.

The same cannot be said for many of their rivals with Ben Whiteman and Mark Sykes absent for Swansea and Bristol City respectively having receiving five yellows.

Pompey’s upcoming opponents QPR will also be without Jonathan Varane for Saturday’s fixture with the central midfielder currently serving his three match red card suspension after he made a late challenge on Danny Batth in the Hoops’ 2-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers.

Championship players on four yellow cards and at risk of suspension:

  • Jayden Bogle - Leeds United
  • Joe Williams - Bristol City
  • CJ Egan-Riley - Burnley
  • Lyle Foster - Burnley
  • Lewis Travis - Blackburn Rovers
  • Lyrhys Dolan - Blackburn Rovers
  • Hayden Carter - Blackburn Rovers
  • Anel Ahmedhodzic - Sheffield United
  • Gustavo Hamer - Sheffield United
  • Josh Tymon - Swansea City
  • Ben Wilmot - Stoke City
  • Joe Rodon - Leeds United
  • Trai Hume - Sunderland
