However, over the last decade, just 20 Blues first-team players have departed for transfer fees – with only two fetching more than £750,000.
While Jamal Lowe, Matt Clarke, Jed Wallace, Adam Webster, Marcus Hardness and Conor Chaplin represented big windfalls, there are other small sales you have probably forgotten about.
So here are the 20 Pompey players sold since the summer of 2015...

17. Louis Dennis - August 1, 2019
Signed on a free transfer from Bromley, Kenny Jackett moved on the attacker just 12 months later after one Championship appearance as he struggled for opportunities. Leyton Orient were willing to pay an undisclosed fee to land Dennis in August 2019 and he departed Fratton Park having totalled eight games and one goal. After two years with Orient, Dennis returned to Bromley, helping them reach the Football League for the first time in their history. Following one season back in league, the 32-year-old was released and has now joined Torquay. Photo: Dave Haines 07708 405508

18. Jamal Lowe - August 1, 2019
With Lowe keen to test himself at a higher level following the League One play-off semi-final defeat to Sunderland, his potential Fratton Park departure dominated the summer of 2019. In the end, it was an acrimonious exit, with Wigan splashing out around £2.5m to land the popular winger, thereby reuniting him with Paul Cook, the man who had brought him to the Blues in January 2017. Lowe has established himself in the Championship, featuring for Wigan, Swansea, Bournemouth, QPR, Swansea (loan) and Sheffield Wednesday. He is currently available on a free transfer. 19. John Marquis - January 2021
A £1m recruit from Doncaster in the summer of 2019, the hard-working striker endured a difficult time at Fratton Park as the price tag weighed heavy. Out of favour and with six months remaining on his contract, Danny Cowley decided to cash in on Marquis in January 2021 and sold him for a small fee to Lincoln. Marquis has since represented Bristol Rovers and Shrewsbury, being relegated to League Two with the latter last season. Photo: Simon Davies

20. Owen Moxon - February 3, 2025
Recruited to bolster Pompey’s squad for the second half of League One title charge, the former Carlisle man also weighed in with what was voted as Goal of the Season against Derby in April 2024. However, he found appearances hard to come by in the Championship, making just two starts, before being sold to League One high-fliers Stockport in February 2025. Moxon was unable register successive League One promotions, unfortunately, with Stockport going out in the play-off semi-finals. Photo: Jason Brown
