We’ve steered clear of the ridiculous number of triallists who came into the club when they returned to training – otherwise the list would’ve been through the roof...

5. Dan Butler
The Pompey Academy graduate was linked with the Blues in May. The 27-year-old left the club in 2015 after making 54 appearances. The deal was dashed after Posh owner Barry Fry announced that Butler had verbally agreed a new deal to stay at London Road. This season Butler has been floating between his natural left0-back while also becoming a left midfielder when Darren Ferguson plays three at the back. Photo: Alistair Langham

6. Ben Thompson
With interest spanning the whole summer it was brought to light that talks had taken place between the two clubs. However, a deal became more unlikely for the midfielder after the Blues spent to bring in Wales international Joe Morrell and then Arsenal's Miguel Azeez on loan. Thompson has found life hard at Millwall this season, playing three times for the Lions in all competitions - one of which came against Pompey. Photo: Joe Pepler

7. Todd Kane
The right-back fell out of favour with QPR manager Mark Warburton towards the end of the season, and was subsequently linked with Pompey in May. However Kane, who played 60 times for the Hoops joined Championship side Coventry but has yet to make an appearance. Photo: Nigel Keene

8. Josh Griffiths
After a successful loan to League Two champions Cheltenham Town Griffths was linked with a move to Pompey, but a deal didn’t take place after Gavin Bazunu arrived. The 20-year-old has since joined Lincoln, featuring in seven games conceding nine goals in the Imps’ slow start to the new league one campaign. Photo: Jurij Kodrun
