And in his time at the Fratton helm, Danny Cowley has turned to a large number of players on the pitch.
In fact, there’s been 41 men used by the Blues boss since he succeeded Kenny Jackett.
Of those 33 have played five or more times, giving a reasonable basis to assess their performances with the star and crescent on their chests.
So after that landmark 50th game with Pompey sweeping past relegation-threatened Doncaster, we’ve searched through our ratings database to see who’s performed best – and worst – under the former Lincoln boss as well as looking at who’s played the most.

5. Gassan Ahadme - 6.1
The promising young forward only played 10 times for Pompey this term and was graded out of seven outings. His loan spell was cut short in January after the loan spell failed to work out but has since scored twice in eight games for his new side Burton. Photo: Jason Brown
6. George Byers - 6.3
The Swansea loanee failed to make much of an impact during his six month loan stay. With many of his 10 appearances coming from the bench, his score was taken from six games where he was marked. 7. Reeco Hackett - 6.3
The 24-year-old was on loan at Southend when Cowley arrived last March but this term has impressed the new boss and has been given 32 outings in blue this season. Callum Johnson was the regular right-back last season and played 12 times in total under Cowley. However, he was sent out on loan to Fleetwood in the summer after making one appearance but has impressed playing 28 times for the Cod Army this term. Photo: Jason Brown
