It means there are now plenty of free agents available for absolutely nothing as Pompey plot their future recruitment.
We’ve looked at the best players that could be options for the Blues...
5. Liam Sercombe
The midfielder's departure from Bristol Rovers hasn't yet been confirmed but Bristol Live are reporting he's been unable to reach a new deal at the Memorial Stadium. Sercombe perhaps doesn't meet Pompey's usual recruitment policy aged 30 but might be useful if they're confined to League One for another season. Photo: Joe Pepler
6. Joe Sbarra
The midfielder departs Burton despite making 33 appearances this season - and scoring in the 2-2 draw at Fratton Park in September. While Sbarra needs more regular opportunities, Kenny Jackett could see something in the youngster and loan him out to enhance his development. Photo: PAUL ELLIS
7. Dimitar Evtimov
The keeper trialled with Pompey for a brief period in January 2019 before joining Accrington. He's been released by Stanley and is now without a club. Pompey aren't exactly short of keepers but could prove decent back-up whether Alex Bass or Craig MacGillivray departed. Photo: Nathan Stirk
8. Scott Wagstaff
The midfielder has plenty of League One experience and could offer back-up if Pompey's promotion push falls short. Photo: Joe Pepler
