The epic Portsmouth landmark Tom Naylor's hurtling towards as he nears outstanding achievement

The Blues captain is set to break into three figures for games at a breakneck speed in the coming weeks, in a testament to his endurance and durability.

Naylor has clocked up a whopping 93 games in just 19 months since arriving at Fratton Park from Burton Albion.

It’s an outstanding achievement delivered at a frenetic pace, one which is made all the more impressive with the vast majority of those appearances coming in the midfield battleground.

With Pompey in the midst of a whopping 13 games in six weeks, there’s every chance Naylor could hit his century in the next three weeks.

It’s a target he’s now got his eyes firmly on.

Naylor said: ‘100 is a big number, especially when you’ve only been here for 18 months.

‘It’s a big number and I want to get there and over that.

‘The midfield role is a big role and you’re always getting stuck in, in the action, recovery runs and running about.

‘It’s probably the toughest position on the pitch, but my body recovers well and is doing well at the minute.

‘I’ve never really had a bad injury, touch wood, just little strains and muscle injuries. I’ll take that every day of the week.

‘As long as I can keep playing week-in, week-out I’ll be more than happy.’

Naylor isn’t planning slow the intensity at which he’s clocking up starts once he goes through the 100-game barrier.

Last term he clocked up 53 matches and, as things stand, could finish this term on 54 games if Pompey don’t beat Arsenal or end up in the play-offs.

With another year on his existing contract, the 28-year-old feels 150 Blues games could be on the horizon.

Naylor added: ‘I’ve still got another year to go next season, so I’ll be looking to try to get more games. That’s what you want as a footballer.

‘Even last season I thought I’d played a lot of games and I felt I’d earned a rest.

‘I know we didn’t get promoted, that was the main aim and I was devastated that we didn’t.

‘But I felt I needed the rest and the body needed the rest.

‘With the games coming up it’s going to be well over 100, hopefully, so the rest will be nice when I get there.’
