‘The highlight of my career’: Four-goal Portsmouth sensation’s gratitude to Fratton faithful for day he’ll never forget against Coventry City

Callum Lang savoured the high point of his football career after his stunning four-goal super show against Coventry City.

And the Scouse sensation has paid tribute to the Fratton faithful for their outpouring of emotion towards him on a day he will never forget.

Lang put the Sky Blues to the sword by bagging all four goals in the 4-1 romp, in a stunning individual display of finishing brilliance.

The 26-year-old smashed in all four goals across 41 minutes of explosive play, with Frank Lampard’s side having no answer to his electric performance.

Lang becomes the first Pompey player to bag four goals in a game in over 20 years - with Yakubu blasting in four strikes against Middlesbrough on the final day of the 2003-04 season.

The man who arrived from Wigan last January admitted he’s never experienced feelings like those he went through at Fratton Park.

And Lang had a tribute for the Pompey fans who helped make it such a special occasion, with the attacking talent lauded with a huge ovation as he was replaced with eight minutes remaining.

Lang said: ‘There’s no feeling like it - and it’s the highlight of my career. It’s 100 per cent the best day.

‘When my number went up on the board it was a really nice feeling - and something I’ve never had before. It was just really special.

‘Have I hit a ball harder than the second? Leeds maybe! It was my favourite out of the four, though.

‘The ball will go on the mantlepiece at home now, I’m really happy with it.

‘I think someone will have recorded it. I don’t normally watch games back, but I think I will for this one!

‘To do it here at this place was really special. It’s something I’ll forever remember and I’m a very lucky man.’
