But the boss will be sympathetic towards Paul Downing or James Bolton should any club make a late move before this evening's 5pm transfer deadline.

Downing's not made a League One appearance for more than a year – despite signing a three-year deal when arriving from Blackburn last summer.

He finds himself as fourth-choice centre-back following the arrival of Rasmus Nicholaisen last month.

Bolton, meanwhile, has also fallen out of favour after a steady maiden campaign on the south coast.

The former Shrewsbury defender hasn’t even been 19th man for the past two league games, with that role instead being handed to youngster Haji Mnoga.

‘The past couple of weeks have been quiet. There hasn't been anything for our players anyway.

‘For Paul and James Bolton, they've not been in the match-day 18. They have been the only two, but there have been games when we haven't had an injury.

‘I'm not jumping up and down to move those guys out. It'd be naive to think we're not going to get injuries through the season.

‘Although they've not been in the match-day 18, I wouldn't hesitate to use them. First off, they can earn their place then if we get injuries they'll be needed.

‘We're not saying anyone is surplus to requirements. We will definitely register them in our squad and I've said all along that when the phone rings then we'll deal with it then.

‘Particularly with someone who's not in the 18, you have to be sympathetic. It's been quiet but if anything happens, we will see.

‘Paul still has a value in our squad. He adds experience and we are not undervaluing that.’
