The man who means league wins for Portsmouth when he's in starting XI

Pompey’s talisman Ryan Williams is adamant he’s not bothered about a lack of goals as his form thrives.

The Blues winger put in an excellent showing in the 4-0 victory over Northampton, as his side made it six wins from seven.

It’s four wins from four in the league games the Australian international has started for Kenny Jackett’s side this season.

Despite some impressive showings over the past week, Williams has not yet managed to hit the goal trail this term.

But that is not something which is bothering the man who celebrates his 28th birthday today, as his level of performance goes from strength to strength.

Williams said: ‘The goals will come. It’s just swings and roundabouts as we’ve seen with John (Marquis).

‘I’m playing well, though, and the team’s winning.

‘I’ve come back in against Gillingham and things have gone pretty well since then.

‘I just feel I’m getting better and better all the time.’

Williams admitted he found it tough being out of the starting XI for much of Pompey’s early-season struggles.

But there’s been a marked improvement with the former Blues trainee in the side - and Williams likes to think that’s no coincidence.

He added: ‘It obviously was a frustrating first bit of the season but I’ve kept my head, kept going and got my chance.

‘I’ve got my chance and that’s been it.

‘I’ve started four league games - and we’ve won four league games.

‘Maybe sometimes I rub off on other players in terms of my energy.

‘Perhaps people want to press and people want to get around me.

‘Sometimes that little bit of extra energy helps. If you see someone else going for it you want to yourself and help them out.’
