The man who'll be in charge of Portsmouth's crunch League One play-off at Oxford
Darren England is the man in charge of Pompey’s League One play-off semi-final second leg at Oxford this evening (5pm).
The South Yorkshire-based official has almost exclusively refereed Championship fixtures this season – as well as one Premier League game.
The Blues head to the Kassam Stadium with the tie finely poised after the 1-1 draw at Fratton Park on Friday.
However, referee Gavin Ward’s performance drew criticism from the hosts, with Pompey having three penalty appeals turned down.
Ronan Curtis rued Ward’s display as a ‘shambles’ having appeared to be tripped by Oxford’s Dan Agyei in second-half stoppage-time.
This season, England has handed out 81 yellow cards and two red cards in 30 appearances.
He was in charge of Saturday’s East Midlands derby between Derby County and Nottingham Forest – sending off Martyn Waghorn in the 1-1 draw.
England hasn't refereed a Pompey game since the 2016-17 season when they delivered a 4-0 win at Colchester.
