That’s the remarkable goal return of Kenny Jackett’s rejuvenated side, who have now registered in 23 consecutive fixtures.

During those 23 matches, Pompey have netted 45 times, averaging 1.96 goals per game.

In fact, they have scored two or more in 16 of those fixtures, suggesting this is no longer a side content to grind out narrow victories.

Of 2020 alone, seven of their eight matches so far have produced two or more goals in the Blues’ favour.

To think that before this current goal-laden spell, Jackett’s men had failed to register in successive games – Gillingham and AFC Wimbledon.

Putting the 23-match scoring streak into context, Pompey’s previous longest spell under Jackett was 16.

That occurred from October 9-December 22, 2018, during last season’s dominance at the top of League One.

Paul Cook’s best sequence inevitably arrived during the 2016-17 League Two title-winning campaign.

From September 24-December 10, 2016, the Blues netted in 15 successive games, a run which couldn’t get them past fourth place.

During the magnificent finale, they scored eight times in a row, the sole blank during that 12-match period being a 3-0 loss at Stevenage.

Under Harry Redknapp, Pompey reached the Premier League after winning Division One in 2002-03, with the longest scoring stretch 21.

It spanned December 14, 2002 until the April 15, 2003, victory over Burnley which sealed promotion through Svetoslav Todorov’s strike.

The run ended the following game, when Redknapp’s side lost 3-0 at Ipswich.

Incidentally, the spell which achieved the 2005 Great Escape involved scoring in 10 consecutive games.

While the 2007-08 season which reaped the FA Cup and a highest top-flight placing for half a century, saw a scoring high of eight in a row.

Jackett’s men next head to Tranmere on Saturday – looking to make it game number 24.
