It was a birthday that would have been a subdued affair.

But while celebrations were likely low-key, the keeper has had plenty to cheer about in the past few months.

After years of patience, having first been used on the Blues bench aged just 16, Bass is now an established No1.

Not only that, but he’s tied down to a long-term deal and has been performing magnificently during his sustained run in Jackett’s starting line-up.

Since surprisingly dislodging fans’ favourite Craig MacGillivray in a 1-1 draw at Gillingham on New Year’s Day, Bass had been ever-present in the League One promotion push before the Covid-19 outbreak suspended football.

A maiden Wembley outing was also in the offing for the previously scheduled Leasing.com Trophy final against Salford on Sunday, having been an unused substitute in last season's triumph over Sunderland.

From 15 appearances, the Fratton youth product has registered seven clean sheets at a percentage of 46.7.

And of the 53 shots that have come his way, Bass has thwarted 44 of them, which converts to 81.1 per cent.

Those numbers put him ahead of the very best in the land.

Liverpool keeper Allison is regarded by many not only as the top keeper in the Premier League but the world.

During the Reds' bid to land a first league title in 30 years, however, the Brazil international has an 80.4 per cent save ratio – lower than Bass.

Should Pompey yield promotion to the Championship when the season recommences, Bass will be determined to display his qualities at the higher level.

This term it is Fulham’s Marek Rodák who has the best save ratio at 77.9 per cent.

In League One, meanwhile, Bass’ closest rival crunching the numbers is AFC Wimbledon's Nathan Trott, who boasts a save percentage of 76.2, while Doncaster’s Timothy Dieng (75.8), Bristol Rovers’ Anssi Jaakkola (74.4) and Sunderland’s Jon McLaughlin (73.7) make up the top five.
