In an horrific opening nine minutes, Josef Bursik had saved a penalty and Paik Seung-Ho had netted a free header from a corner as John Mousinho’s men were steamrollered.
Yet somehow it remained 1-0 at half-time, yet the hosts then added further goals through Tomoki Iwata, Christophe Klarer and Keshi Anderson.
Remarkably, the visiting fans continued to sing through as their team were battered during a miserable second half – and here are our Pompey player ratings...

5. Regan Poole - 5
Comfortably the pick of the defenders and tremendous block on Anderson at the start of the season half. However, he lost his man Clarer for the third goal from a free-kick as the mediocrity spread. Photo: Graham Hunt

6. Ibane Bowat - 3
(Replaced by Zak Swanson on 53 minutes) Named at left-back in place of the absent Ogilvie for Pompey league debut and initially suffered a torrid time, with Roberts tearing him to shreds. Eventually settled down when Pompey began to enjoy more possession, but no surprise seeing him subbed. Photo: Simon Roe

7. Andre Dozzell - 4
Perhaps unluckily conceded a fifth-minute penalty with a trailing foot on Ducksch, which Bursik saved. Things didn’t improve for the midfielder who, despite the second period of the first half, couldn’t make any impact as game passed him by. Tomoki Iwata lost him for the corner for the second goal. 8. Marlon Pack - 4
Always wanted the ball, always wanted to dictate play, always prepared to fight. But, other than the end of the first half, couldn’t help Pompey get a foothold as hosts swamped him. Photo: Graham Hunt
