Niall Ennis is one name on the Blues’ shopping list who could potentially bolster Kenny Jackett's attacking options.

The Wolves man fits the type of forward Pompey are keen to add to their ranks before Friday’s 5pm deadline.

The 21-year-old would not be counted towards the League One salary rules implemented at the start of the campaign. Clubs are now limited to 22 players over the age of 21.

Ennis spent last season on loan at Doncaster, registering six goals and four assists in 32 appearances.

He’s expected to depart Molineux on a temporary basis once again, with the Blues monitoring the situation and League One rivals Oxford reportedly keen.

A report from Football Insider last night, however, claimed that Ennis has agreed to return to the Keepmoat for the season.

But Doncaster Free Press reporter, Liam Hoden, says that Rovers have been focusing on bringing in a midfielder and no agreement has been reached with the England youth international.

Hoden wrote on Twitter: ‘Done a bit of digging into report that Rovers have agreed terms to re-sign Niall Ennis on loan. I’m reliably informed there is no such agreement, nor are Rovers actively pursuing it.

‘The focus is on a central midfielder, with a target identified and talks having taken place. It’s just about getting it over the line before Friday.

‘Rovers have monitored Ennis’ situation throughout the summer and are keeping an eye on it. But there’s no agreement.’
