But according to Football Insider, League One rivals Ipswich are also keen on the 22-year-old.

Johnston is currently on loan at struggling Wigan Athletic and featured in Pompey’s 1-0 win at the DW Stadium on Monday.

He’s made 15 appearances for the Latics since arriving in January, scoring one goal.

The left-footed centre-back came through the youth ranks at Liverpool before joining Feyenoord in August 2019.

However, Johnston has struggled to make an impact at the Dutch heavyweights and featured just four times.

The Scotland under-21 international’s contract with Dick Advocaat’s side expires in the summer, although the club hold the option of an additional year.

His performances at Wigan have reportedly ‘caught the eye’ of Pompey and Ipswich.

The Blues are likely to be in the market for a central defender this summer.

Rasmus Nicolaisen’s season-long loan from FC Midtjylland expires and his void will need to be replaced.

As things stand, Jack Whatmough is out of contract in June while Paul Downing may also be keen on a move away from Fratton Park having not played a league game since September 2019.
