According to The Courier, the Blues are still keeping tabs on the prolific marksman after lodging a bid during the January transfer window.

It is said that Scottish Premiership side Hibernian made a £350,000 offer plus £150,000 worth of add-ons during the winter window, with Dundee United then tabling more cash to tempt Nisbet to Tannadice Park.

However, The Courier reports that Pompey’s bid was higher both clubs.

Nisbet enjoyed a superb maiden season for Dunfermline, having arrived from Raith Rovers last summer.

He scored 23 goals in 32 appearances before the 2019-20 campaign was curtailed amid the coronavirus crisis as Athletic finished sixth in the Scottish Championship.

What’s more, 18 of Nisbet’s efforts came in the second tier – with only ex-Blues target Lawrence Shankland (24) netting more. for Dundee United.

Athletic chairman Ross McArthur has insisted his club do not have to sell the 23-year-old, though, despite the financial ramifications of the Covid-19 pandemic.

McArthur said: ‘Unless we get fair value for him, he’ll just stay.

‘I’ve no doubt Kevin will go on to bigger and better things, but there’s interest down south as well and if clubs in Scotland think they might come in and get him for a cheap price because of coronavirus or whatever else, we’re not in a position where we need to sell.

‘So, unless we got a price where we thought it was at a level where we couldn’t turn it down then nothing will happen.’

Nisbet started his career at Partick Thistle and had loan spells at East Stirlingshire, Ayr United and Dumbarton.

He completed a switch to Scottish League One club Raith Rovers in 2018 and plundered 34 goals that season, earning him a move to Dunfermline.

Nisbet has a year left on his East End Park contract.
