The Blues were today linked with an unlikely move for the striker, who is currently plying his trade in Australia for Sydney FC.

The 33-year-old has enjoyed a decent season in the A-League where he has plundered 18 goals in 21 games to help his side to the top of the table.

The News understands, however, Le Fondre is not a player who Kenny Jackett is considering a move for moving forward.

The report suggested the man who moved to Australia two years ago after leaving Bolton was also attracting interest from Sunderland as well as other clubs in India and Australia.

A bid to bring in the former Le Fondre always appeared to be unlikely, however.

Jackett has steered away from buying players over the age of 30, choosing to recruit younger emerging talents with a resale value.

He did sign Le Fondre on loan when manager at Wolves in 2015, but the former Reading and Rotherham man didn’t enjoy a happy stay at Molineux.

Chances were limited for him and after leaving at the end of the season the striker spoke out about Jackett’s style of football not being suited to his game.
