Tweet reveals Peterborough defender Nathan Thompson 'apologised' to ex-Portsmouth team-mate Ronan Curtis following booking

And according to Curtis’ mum Marie, the Peterborough defender admitted he didn’t know ‘how he got away with the tackle’ he committed on the Irishman

Blues old-boy Thompson, who played to role of pantomime villian following the return of 2,000 fans to PO4, cynically brought down Curtis as the hosts looked to launch a counter-attack following a Posh corner.

But the ‘taking-one-for the-team’ challenge still saw the 30-year-old booked – his fifth yellow card of the season – by referee Peter Wright.

Thompson had the Pompey bench up in arms once again moments later when he dragged down Ryan Williams.

On this occasion he escaped punishment – much to the home side’s disgust – but was soon substituted by Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson as the visitors trailed 2-0.

With Pompey going on to claim an important victory, it represented a day to forget for a player who made 78 appearances for the Blues before letting his contract expire at the end of the 2019 season.

Yet according to a tweet by Marie Curtis, Thompson had the ‘b***s’ to admit to his errors after the game and apologised.

The Tweet read: ‘Bitter Sweet day today but so proud off the lads couldn’t ask for any more they gave there all.

‘Still think Thompson should have walked and so did he took some b***s to apologise to Ronan after game said he doesn’t know how he got away with the tackle shook his hand.’
