The 59-year-old has departed Fratton Park after yesterday’s disappointing Papa John’s Trophy final defeat to Salford City on penalties.

It was another lacklustre display from the Blues, who’ve lost six of their past eight matches.

It means Jackett’s time in the hot seat comes to an end after almost four years in charge.

The vast majority of the Fratton faithful had wanted to see the Blues part ways with Jackett to salvage their latest League One promotion bid.

Here’s how they’ve been reacted on social media...

@bbroadbent02

Kenny Jackett had to go. But I do feel bad for him. Never once blamed the players and seemed to have integrity. Genuinely wish him the best.

At last hoooooray

@PompeyViking62

Kenny Jackett’s Pompey legacy:

The good: The 1st season, the post-war record, the 2019 EFL Trophy, refusal to scapegoat players, being mostly tough to beat.

The bad: The 2019 playoffs, the 2020 playoffs, the 2020 EFL Trophy, man management, big games, “a good way to lose”.

Better than winning the champions league. That’s made my whole year.

All the best Kenny Jackett. Unfortunately response from team needed since January and for whatever reason it just didn’t happen.

The board tried to stay calm but sadly the performance and results have been shocking. Big decisions now! PuP

If this is what the players wanted and have engineered then I expect a 1000% improvement on the effort and skill the team have exhibited since Christmas.

If not the whole lot, except McGillivary and maybe a couple of others, can follow him out of the door.

@danieledmunds4

At the same time of delight but jackett obviously did have us at his heart coming back early from his operation and deserves credit for that!!!

@paulhog

Was on the cards but sad to see this happen to kenny jackett, I thought he was perfect for Pompey but it just didn’t happen

@BradSaundersPfc

4 years of failure over!!!!!!

Kenny Jackett may have been out of contract at the end of the season, but the toxicity around the club from all sides made it impossible for him to remain a minute longer. Had to be done for the good of the club.

@olliejoell1606

I feel bad for the guy.

I wanted him gone just like everyone.

But I’m sure he was a nice bloke.

I just don’t think his style of football or anytbing worked here.

Good luck for the future.

@NeilTansley

Kenny Jackett seems like a nice guy, but unfortunately he just couldn't make it work at Portsmouth.

With his record I was hoping he'd get us up, he hasn't in four seasons, so it's right for him to leave. Best of luck to him for the future though.

2 years late but finally done. One memory from him was the tinpot trophy but so many years of dross and lack of passion.

@az_steve_wilson

Seemed like a decent guy but makes sense for Kenny Jackett to leave Pompey, although I think he should have gone at the end of last season. Interesting to see who they appoint. Will show the ambition and direction the club is taking as we’re all wondering…

Karl Westlake

Hopefully the decision was made on the back of a competent chat with a replacement... the squad is there for it, he likes.

352 and the 442, so the only questions are whether he will come and the Eisners will spend a penny.

I would ask Harry Redknapp until the end of season, he would love nothing more than to take us up.

@PortchyPompey

Now we shall see if it has been the players that have been not playing for the manager. Starting with Tuesday, the spotlight is on them all.

@MarkRoser9

Wow ! Thought he be here for the season . Nice bloke tried his best but whooop.happy with this news !!!

@beano438

GOOD! Let’s hope the boards dithering and lack of football understanding hasn’t cost us the season! Go and pay the money now and get either Duff or Russel in , allow them to asses the shambles jackets put together and go again next season!

@lyzchambers

Thank you #Pompey. No-one wants to see someone lose their job, but this was untenable.

Thanks to Kenny Jackett for his efforts over 4 years, and good luck for the future.

Onwards and Play Up Pompey.
