The News understands Kenny Jackett is leaning towards keeping the left-back at Fratton Park.

Brown’s contract comes to a close in the summer, with the Blues holding an option to extend that agreement by another 12 months.

The suspension of the football season muddies the waters on that front, however, with the possibility of the campaign continuing beyond the period the option has to be invoked.

Pompey chief executive Mark Catlin is remaining relaxed about the club’s position and doesn’t feel there is any immediate rush to find a resolution.

Brown has established himself as key member of Jackett’s squad after arriving following his departure from Bristol Rovers two years ago.

The 29-year-old has made 70 appearances in that time and this season was named his side’s vice-captain, underlining his status as a figurehead in the Blues’ ranks.

Catlin said: ‘I speak to Lee very regularly - even if it’s just to cheer me up with his terrible banter! It’s so bad it’s funny in its own right!

‘Lee’s a great lad and obviously we have the right to extend his contract by another year, which we’ve allowed ourselves as per his contract.

‘We’re not looking to break the contract and there’s a defined time in there to do that.

‘We’ll keep monitoring that situation and Lee is perfectly happy with that at the moment.’

Talks have taken place over Christian Burgess extending his four-year stay at the club, while Oli Hawkins, Brandon Hausntrup, Brett Pitman, Adam May, Matt Casey and Luke McGee, who’s on loan at Bradford, see their existing agreements come to a close.

Pompey also have four players - Ross McCrorie, Cameron McGeehan, Steve Seddon and Sean Raggett - on loan at the club for the season.
