The Blues were linked with a loan swoop for the promising midfielder this week, who looks likely to go out on loan from the Premier League champions again.

But The News understands the 20-year-old is not an option they are actively pursuing at the moment.

Woodburn spent last season on loan at Oxford United, but his time with Karl Robinson’s side was hampered by two unrelated foot injuries.

German second division side Fortuna Dussledorf have been linked with the talent, who made a hurtling emergence at Anfield as the club’s youngest goalscorer.

The left-back positions needs cover along with the centre-back position, with Kenny Jackett looking for some creativity in midfield and potentially some additional pace up front.

Pompey have three places available in their squad for players aged over the age of 21, although there is leeway to bolster that group further by bringing in additions under that age threshold.

Gallen also told The News yesterday he believes Pompey may have to hold their nerve to get the players they want, with the league season starting on September 12.

Jackett has yet to add a new face to his squad this summer, with Sean Raggett the only signing after sealing a permanent deal after his season-long loan stay from Norwich last term.

Lee Brown has agreed a new two-year deal after his contract came to a close.
