That now leaves Pompey and the rest of the League One as the only elite division in English football waiting for a resolution to their season.

In that are some interesting details which give clues to how deciding the season on the pitch for the third tier could conceivably look.

Plans are outlined for up to five substitutes to be allowed in the remaining fixtures, while matchday squads are expected to be stretched from 18 to 20 players.

That sets a precedent for what would happen in the event of Pompey returning, with no movement expected on that scenario until June 8 and a proposal deadline tomorrow.

The statement also confirms it’s hoped the Championship play-off final will be played on or around July 30.

Also, there are reports today many of the 200 remaining games in the Premier League and Championship will be shown live.

That could see a number of games shown daily with staggered kick-off times. Sky Sports are the rights holder to EFL football so would screen any of the games featured, although the iFollow streaming service is also expected to play a central role.
