The Blues are in the market for a left-back after Cam Pring was recalled by Bristol City earlier this month.

With Pompey unlikely to prise Steve Seddon back to Fratton Park, attention has now turned to Daniels.

The ex-Bournemouth ace has spent the first half of the season at Shrewsbury, having signed a short-term deal in October.

Daniels' deal at New Meadow expires this month, with the Blues hoping a return back to the south coast could tempt him.

The 34-year-old has scored twice in 16 appearances for Shrewsbury and is enjoying regular action again after returning from a long-term knee injury.

Speaking to the Shropshire Star after the Shrews' 1-0 win over Blackpool on December 29, Daniels hadn't been in discussions with the New Meadow hierarchy at that stage.

But he admitted he was waiting to see the club's stance on whether they wanted to offer him fresh terms.

Daniels said: ‘Nothing has been said to me from the club so as far as I know we are in the same situation.

‘I guess we’ll wait until January and go from there.

‘But I’m enjoying my football and grateful to the club for giving me the opportunity and we’ll see how it goes, it’s down to the club to see what their stance is.

‘We’ll see, it’s something out of my control and the club’s decision.’
