What Tony Pulis had to say about Portsmouth boss Kenny Jackett and board's faith in him

The Blues manager guided his side to a 2-0 League One victory over Tranmere on Saturday, securing a ninth win in a row in all competitions and a new club record for successive victories since the PO4 outfit entered the Football League in 1920.

The success at Prenton Park also saw Pompey move up to fifth in the table, where they are currently six points adrift of leaders Rotherham but with two games in hand.

It’s the type of scenario all Blues fans were hoping for when the season began back in August.

However, there has been trouble along the way, with the Blues languishing in 17th place following a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Wimbledon back in October.

A 1-0 loss at Wycombe in September also saw fans calling for the manager to be sacked.

But the Pompey board always kept faith in Jackett, and according to Pulis – a former Fratton Park manager himself – they’re reaping the benefits of that approach.

Speaking on EFL on Quest on Saturday night, Pulis said: ‘Portsmouth are a big club and they get, you know, 16-18,000 every week - and they're expecting promotion.

'Again, Kenny's a smashing felling, they've got a really good manager there.

‘It's really, really good to see that they've turned it round and the board gave him the backing that he needed.'

Pompey are next in action on Tuesday night when they travel to Birmingham to face fourth-placed Coventry.
