The Blues could bolster their forward options ahead of tomorrow's 5pm cut-off point.

As things stand, Harrison and John Marquis are Kenny Jackett's only senior options, following the summer departures of Oli Hawkins and Brett Pitman.

Ennis' age means he'll be exempt from salary-cap restrictions, which appeals to the Blues.

Harrison has started the past two League One matches and offered Pompey a focal point when leading the line in wins over Burton and MK Dons

A fresh addition would add further pressure on the ex-Ipswich man to keep his spot in Jackett’s side.

However, Harrison will relish the battle should a marksman be recruited.

He said: ‘We need players in every position for competition.

‘We can't have people becoming complacent. Complacency kills people's careers and their motivation. You don't want that around the training ground.

‘If you know you're going to play, you don't play as well. You want someone scratching at your heels, then you know that you can't play poorly.

‘I know that John (Marquis) could come in and play well then I might not start for 10 games. That's why you need competition.

‘It doesn't matter if it is a striker, a keeper or anywhere else, someone needs to come in.

‘Players have got to go out and keep their shirts. You can't go out and think "I'll play in the next game" because you won't.

‘You'll be dropped as fast as you get picked and that's why no-one will.’

Pompey have made five signings so far during the window.

Sean Raggett, Callum Johnson and Michael Jacobs arrived on permanent deals, while Cam Pring and Rasmus Nicolaisen were brought in on loan.

And Harrison has been impressed with the business that Jackett has conducted so far.

The former Bristol Rovers man added: ‘The business has been good. We've made some really good additions.

‘Crackers (Jacobs) has got experience. I don't know how many appearances he's made in the Championship but it's an absolute delight to have him in the team.

‘He brings something different to Ronan Curtis. Both are very good at what they do.

‘We need additions. We don't need to get rid of players, we need to add them and the players we've brought in complement us.’
