Why Kristian Pedersen holds the key to any permanent Portsmouth move for Birmingham loanee Steve Seddon

In eight appearances for his new side to date, the talented left-back only knows what it's like to win with the star & crescent on his chest.

And with the Blues juggernaut gathering League One momentum at exactly the right time, his deliveries from set-pieces have been key to an unbeaten start to 2020 and a now club-record nine-successive wins since Pompey entered the Football League in 1920.

Fans are already hoping Seddon’s move until the end of the season will be made permanent at the campaign's end, such has been his impact.

However, a common theme kept emerging when we asked work experience guest Luke Gray to look into that possibility by quizzing fans at the defender’s parent club.

The name Kristian Pedersen kept coming up – a relative unknown in these parts.

Yet it seems any potential Pompey deal for Seddon could very much depend on the former Denmark under-21 international's St Andrew's future.

He's been a key player for Pep Clotet's Championship outfit this season, featuring in every league game for Brum to date.

And his performances haven't gone unnoticed, with Watford reportedly keen to make a move for the 25-year-old last month.

A move never materialised, though, with Birmingham keen to keep hold of a player who has made 73 appearances since moving from Union Berlin in the summer of 2018.

But as he continues to impress under Clotet's management, the tougher it will be to hang on to a player who is also capable of playing as a left-winger.

And that's where any potential Pompey move for Seddon could fall short, according to kroblog.com's Lee Harris.

He believes where Seddon, who signed a three-year-deal at Birmingham in the close season, ends up playing next term hinges on where Pederson will be.

Harris said: ‘I think it’s going to be very hard for us to hang on to Pedersen in the summer so Steve Seddon may be his replacement.'

Mark Watson, host of the BFTV podcast for Birmingham Fan TV, spoke very highly of Seddon’s ability and agreed with Harris' verdict.

His dream scenario, though, was Birmingham keeping hold of Pedersen and allowing Seddon to continue his development at Fratton Park.

He said: ‘If it wasn’t for Kristian Pedersen finding his feet and becoming Birmingham’s best player this season, Seddon would most likely be starting.

‘If Pedersen doesn’t leave in the next window, Seddon would possibly be sent out again in order to get as much game time as possible.’

Meanwhile, Nigel Bayliss, of The Nomad Blog, wants Seddon back to provide Pedersen with competition down Birmingham's left flank.

He told The News: ‘I'm glad Pompey are able to offer him some game time and experience, but I would like to see him back at the Blues challenging Pedersen for that left-back slot in the team.

‘Seddon was a victim of what appears to be a board that like a say in the match-day squad and was played out of position so his best was never seen.’

Wherever Seddon ends up playing next season, it certainly appears there’ll be supporters of one persuasion left disappointed.
