Before the former Birmingham striker, who was was stood in an offside position, forced Gavin Bazunu into a fantastic save from point blank range.
But joy was short-lived as Washington reacted quickly to fire into an empty net – with Pompey’s defender’s routed to the spot.
And McAnuff described his dismay at how the official missed the ‘straight forward’ decision.

Hide AdSpeaking at half-time he said: ‘At the end of the day, you want decision to go with you. It was a great delivery into the box and Chuks Aneke wins the first header, but Gavin Bazunu will be disappointed in terms of his defenders not helping him out.
‘As the ball goes wide, the linesman has a clear sight, and should be giving the offside as Aneke is clearly in an offside position. HAving said that it’s a fantastic save before Connor Washington is on hand top tap the ball home.
‘But certainly Pompey will be really disappointed that the linesman’s missed it. The linesman is looking down the line to where the ball gets delivered, and what the last defender’s position is.
‘For me, Chuks Aneke is clearly on the wrong side, so it should be a pretty straightforward decision.’
