Now the centre-back is confident of swiftly striking up a new centre-back partnership ahead of the Blues’ latest League One promotion push.

During his loan spell last season, he scored two goals in 38 appearances.

After departing the Canaries, Raggett admitted other potential suitors were chasing him on a free transfer.

But the former Lincoln man is delighted to again be donning the star and crescent.

Raggett said: ‘I was obviously speaking to the gaffer here for a couple of weeks and we got the deal done in time for me to be at the first day of training on Monday.

‘It’s a lot better when you can get in at the start of pre-season.

‘If you come in a few weeks behind everyone, when they’ve played a few games, then it’s a bit harder.

‘I’m pleased it’s been done quickly. I took all of my options on board and knew that I had to take my time.

‘Pompey was always a really attractive option. I’ve enjoyed my time here and it’s one I’ve taken, which I’m pleased with.’

Raggett will, however, have to form a fresh relationship in central defence.

The majority of his appearances last term were alongside Christian Burgess - who has since departed for Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

As things stand, Paul Downing and Jack Whatmough are competing for the berth next to Raggett in pre-season, with the latter now available after sitting out the recent play-off defeat at the hands of Oxford.

The 26-year-old has played with both players on a handful of occasions.

But whoever wins the race to start the League One curtain-raiser on September 12, Raggett's confident he'll be able to build a sound rapport.

He said: ‘I enjoyed playing next to Burge and I thought we built up quite a good relationship at the back.

‘Now it's going to be someone else and hopefully with me.

‘I've got to know both Whatey and Downs over the year. I haven't played much football with either of them but I'm sure we can build up a good relationship.

‘I've played with Downs a couple of times and Jack as well against Scunthorpe and Peterborough.

‘Both of them have looked really sharp in training.

‘They have obviously looked after themselves during the time off and hopefully it'll mean we have a strong back line for the season.

‘They're both good players and I have no issues playing with either.’
