The hole in Pompey’s finances is detailed with football in crisis through the Covid-19 pandemic.

That is set to hit Jackett’s recruitment and playing budget moving forward and places doubt over a permanent raid for Seddon, who has made a big impact since arriving on loan from Birmingham in January.

But Cross believes the issues at St Andrews could yet lead to Seddon to remaining at Fratton Park next term, either on another loan or permanently.

‘But he signed a three-year contract at Birmingham last summer, so would’ve had to offer him a long-term deal.

‘As I understand it, Birmingham were asking for a ridiculous amount of money for a left-back of his experience and the levels he’s played his football at.

‘But a lot has changed since those conversations took place, so could Pompey get Steve ‘Seddon on a cheaper deal? Do Birmingham need to cut their cloth because of the position they are in?

‘They are a club who’ve got financial problems themselves. These are all things which can be looked at moving forward.’

As well as making sense of the reasons behind the likely League One cancellation and how the season’s outcome will be decided, there’s also a look at how Pompey’s squad is likely to shape up moving forward, as well as some of the hidden gems Jackett may still look to bring in.
