Portsmouth folk hero extends playing career

The veteran midfielder this week joined Boston United, the club where he started his career in 1999.

In the process, he links-up with fellow Blues favourite Ben Davies at the National League North club.

Norris, who runs his own gym in Bolton, played 49 times for Evo-Stik League side Shaw Lane last season.

However, the Barnsley-based outfit resigned from all competitions in June, leaving the ex-Ipswich man without a club.

Now he has been reunited with ex-Shaw Lane boss Craig Elliott at Boston, joining a squad which also contains Davies.

Davies made 51 Pompey appearances and scored once during the 2015-16 campaign, scooping six different supporter Player of the Season awards in the process.

The popular right-back, also aged 37, joined the Pilgrims this summer upon the expiry of a two-year Grimsby deal.

Davies was part of the Mariners side which held Plymouth to a 1-1 draw on the final day of the 2016-17 season '“ thereby helping Pompey dramatically claim the League Two title.

Norris, of course, resides in Pompey folklore following his last-gasp leveller against Southampton in April 2012.

The midfielder, who finished as top-scorer that season, netted eight times in 42 appearances before sold to Leeds in July 2012.

Boston, who are 10th, entertain Peterborough Sports in the FA Cup second qualifying round on Saturday.
