Portsmouth must capitalise on AFC Wimbledon victory with successive home winsÂ
Pompey must follow up their triumph at AFC Wimbledon with successive wins at Fratton Park.Â
That is the verdict of The News' chief sports writer Neil Allen after the Blues' 2-1 victory over the Wombles on Saturday.Â
Kenny Jackett's troops travelled to Kingsmeadow on the back of their first League One defeat of the season to Gillingham.
Pompey responded superbly against Neal Ardley's side, displaying both their attacking prowess and defensive resolve, and remain three points clear at the summit of the division.Â
The success continued the Blues' fine form on the road this term, having collected 19 points from a possible 21.
Jackett's side's problems have lay at home and are winless in their past three matches at Fratton Park.Â
Pompey host Fleetwood on Saturday, before Burton visit PO4Â on Tuesday, October 23.
And in the latest edition of Pompey Talk, Allen believes it's crucial Jackett's men take six points from the two games and cement their place at the top of League One.
He said: '˜Forget the Checkatrade Trophy win at Crawley '“Â it was a different team and different competition.
'˜Pompey had to bounce back straight away from Gillingham and they did that (at Wimbledon).
'˜For the first 60 minutes they were outstanding attacking-wise and for the last half-an-hour outstanding defensively, so they showed all sides to their game.Â
'˜It was an important win, but now even more important is two home games in a row.
'˜Pompey are without a win in three at Fratton Park in the league.
'˜They need to capitalise from two home games coming up to really cement their place at the top of the league.'
