Portsmouth reschedule Fratton Park Remembrance commemoration
Pompey's Remembrance commemoration has been rescheduled for the Checkatrade Trophy visit of Spurs under-21s.
In addition, the match has been earmarked for a '˜Tickets for Troops' event, while 50 per cent of the Blues' net profit will be donated to the Royal British Legion.
The announcement represents an enforced change from original plans to host the commemoration against Charlton on Saturday, November 17.
With that Fratton Park fixture now postponed due to international call-ups '“ and Pompey's FA Cup first-round tie taking place at Maidenhead on November 10 '“ the club's tribute has been switched.
Instead it will take place on Tuesday, November 13, ahead of the Spurs encounter (7.45pm).
In a statement, Pompey said: '˜This decision has been taken after consultation with the Royal British Legion and the Pompey Pals charity, with whom the club have been working for eight months on this project.
'˜Initially, the club's commemoration of the centenary of the ending of the Great War was pencilled in for October 27 or November 3, but a quirk of the fixture list gave the Blues away matches on both those Saturdays, meaning the event was switched to November 17.
'˜An away FA Cup draw on the weekend of November 10 left the club with no other options, given the next home league game is not until the end of the month.
'˜Both the RBL and Pompey Pals understand the club's position and fully support the decision that has been taken.
'˜All parties, who have put significant effort into the planning of the event, are hugely disappointed the commemoration cannot take place on a Saturday fixture with a full Fratton Park.'
As part of '˜Tickets for Troops' offer, complimentary tickets for the fixture are available for active and former service personnel.
Further details of how to apply for the '˜Tickets for Troops' scheme will be announced soon.
