Reds earn priceless points... Moneys survive late scare

Relegation-battling Fareham Town came from behind to pick up three vital Wessex League premier division points by beating Bournemouth Poppies 3-1 at Cams Alders.

The home side had the first chance on 15 minutes when Ash Tattersall broke away only to fire his shot into the side netting.

Two minutes later Bournemouth took the lead from the penalty spot.

Callum Laycock fouled Fawzi Saadi in the area and Dave Ewan made no mistake with his spot-kick.

The Reds missed another good chance midway through the half when Dale Clarke headed a pin-point Josh Taylor cross wide of the target.

Clarke made up for that miss on in the 26th minute, when he levelled the scores with a close-range header from a Simon Woods cross.

The Reds then got their noses in front in the 67th minute with one of their goals of the season.

Tattersall went on a surging run half the length of the pitch holding off a series of challenges before calmly slotting his shot into the net.

Simon Woods sealed Fareham’s win with their third goal three minutes from the end turning in the area and crashing his shot into the roof of the net.

Moneyfields survived a late scare to win 3-2 at Folland Sports.

The city club were cruising at 3-0 with 15 minutes remaining but conceded twice to leave themselves hanging on.

‘We were brilliant for 75 minutes and then got a bit sloppy,’ said Moneyfields manager Dave Carter.

‘Once they scored it gave them the momentum and we got a bit panicky.’

The visitors led 1-0 at half-time through a Robbie Pitman strike and added to their lead in the opening minues of the second period.

Conor Bailey crossed to the far post for Gary Austin to slot home.

On 65 minutes Austin was brought down in the area and Bailey crashed his spot-kick into the top corner.

In the Puma Engineering Hampshire Premier League senior division, Chris Sales scored twice to give Locks Heath a deserved 2-0 home win over Winchester Castle.

That result saw the hosts climb into the top half of the table and into ninth position.

Baffins Milton Rovers and Liss Athletic meet in the semi-finals of the Hampshire Premier League Cup at Locks’ Warsash Road ground tonight (7.15pm).
