The Blues face Barnet tomorrow seeking to bounce back from an uncharacteristically lacklustre showing at the Crown Ground.

A four-match winning run shuddered to a halt with a 1-0 defeat, amid an unsatisfactory performance.

Still, Paul Cook’s men remain strong on home turf and have the opportunity chalk up a fourth consecutive Fratton Park triumph.

It would require Pompey to put in a display contrasting with last weekend.

However, Rose is confident they have taken on board their errors to enable tomorrow to be a very different outcome.

He said: ‘We know Accrington was a big game this early in the season and wanted to get the three points on the board to continue the run we were on.

‘Sometimes it just happens, sometimes you have a bad day at the office.

‘The key thing is moving on and being able to bounce back as soon as possible.

‘We didn’t do the basics as well as we did with the other games, especially at the start, and that is certainly something we’ll make sure we do tomorrow.

‘Our tempo was not high in terms of pressing as a group, maybe we were pressing them in ones or twos – whereas against Crawley we were hunting in packs of threes, fours or fives.

‘At Accrington we were pressing as individuals, which you don’t want, and communication is always key to that.

‘When you get the shout from behind to go you know your mate is behind you, I don’t think as a team we were quite at it in that regard.

‘We have worked hard this week to get it out of the system and get our minds right to look forward to another game.

‘The key is trying not to make the same mistake twice and I think you can put Accrington down as a blip.’

The Blues have picked up 10 points from a possible 12 at Fratton Park so far this season.

It is improved home form Cook had craved for his second season at securing promotion.

Of course, Rose knows plenty about climbing out of League Two, having represented both Northampton and Oxford United last term.

Pompey are presently fifth in the table, yet the recent winning streak augers well for a sustained push.

‘We are not far away, we have been fine-tuning a few things this week and have got it out of our system,’ added Rose.

‘We are in a positive frame of mind heading into this game.

‘We were on a good run and have now won four out of the last five, however way you want to put it.

‘We have shown our promotion credentials in the last month and will be looking to repeat that tomorrow.’
