Steve Mac had a message for the club's bosses as he looked beyond the next few games: 'Strengthen in Jan T/W ... another central defender, another central midfielder and another striker.....up the cover and competition. Keep Curtis, Lowe, Clarke, B Thompson. Strengthen and see this job home. PUP.'

Michael Turner said simply: 'Brick by brick, 3 more points.' And Lee Cooke pointed out: 'If we had a good home record we would be 12 points clear now.'

And there was praise for Pompey fans from the Scunthorpe Foodbank Twitter account, who tweeted after the game: 'Have just heard that a bus of @officialpompey fans collected around £70 for our work and brought us some food too on their way up to the match with @SUFCOfficial - many thanks, we really appreciate it. #HungerDoesntWearClubColours'
