The Blues captain cut a frustrated figure as his team were held to a 1-1 draw by Gillingham at Fratton Park.

Kenny Jackett’s side could have closed the gap on the top two to three points, but could have no argument with not picking the win.

It was a familiar pattern as Pompey started brightly but gradually ran out of ideas and Naylor knows his team need to find an ingredient which is missing at present.

He said: ‘I think we need a bit of a spark.

‘We seem to need that cushion in a game to make it 2-0 or 3-0.

‘We just can’t get that at the minute, which is quite frustrating.

‘There’s a long way to go though and we need to stick together.

‘It’s still wide open, though, it’s still there for us.’
