Super-sub Tubbs grabs Gosport Borough victory over PooleÂ
Gosport Borough ended their six-game losing streak with a 3-2 Southern League premier division south victory over Poole Town at Privett Park.
Superb-sub Matt Tubbs capitalised on a goalkeeping error to net a 76th-minute winner and stop Borough's slide down the table.
Pat Suraci and Harry Medway were also on target for the hosts.Â
Borough almost gifted the Dolphins an own goal in the opening three minutes when a lofted ball from a defender almost went over the head of home keeper Patrick O'Flaherty.
There was a blow for Gosport on 25 minutes when Sam Roberts went off injured to be replaced by Alex Lafleur.
Borough ignored the setback, however, and took the lead two minutes later.
Player-manager Craig McAllister rolled a ball across the box and Suraci hammered his shot into the net.
Poole almost levelled soon after but O'Flaherty produced a cracking save.Â
The hosts tightened their grip further in the 37th minute when Medway doubled his side's lead, converting at the far post from a corner.Â
A minute before half-time visiting forward Marvin Brooks had a header bounce off the top of the crossbar.
Yet Brooks needed just two minutes at the start of the second period to reduce the arrears, powering home an aerial effort from a free-kick.
That goal rocked Borough's confidence and on 54 minutes they conceded a penalty.
Steve Devlin rifled his spot-kick high into the net to level matters.
But Borough responded brilliantly and got their reward.Â
With 14 minutes remaining, visiting goalkeeper Luke Cairney dropped a Suraci free-kick and substitute Tubbs was on hand to touch home the loose ball and clinch the three points for his side.Â
The win snapped Gosport's dismal recent run of form and they travel to Frome Town on Saturday.Â
