The Blues welcome Mansfield Town to Fratton Park today (3pm) occupying fifth spot in the table – three points off of the automatic-promotion places.

Recent home results have been an issue, though, with Pompey defeated on their last two league outings at PO4 ahead of the Stags’ visit.

But right-back Talbot feels the Blues are poised to put together a winning run.

And the 30-year-old insisted the players are as impatient as the fans in wanting to maintain a surge towards the summit – something he feels they can sustain over a long period of time.

Talbot said: ‘Hopefully things click sooner rather than later because I reckon we are capable of going unbeaten from now until the end of the season, if everything goes well.

‘It is possible but it is a tough league.

‘Teams come here and always seem to carry a little bit of an extra spark.

‘But it is up to us to sort that out.

‘We are good enough to break them down and hopefully that starts today.’

Talbot, who is on his way back to full fitness after recovering from a hamstring injury, won the League Two title at Chesterfield under Cook’s tuition two years ago.

And he insists his summer move from the Spireities was one made with another promotion in mind.

He added: ‘I won this league with Chesterfield, which was under the gaffer as well.

‘And I wouldn’t want to move 250 miles down here without my family just to finish in mid-table.

‘I came to win the league.

‘It is still early days for us and fingers crossed we can get a run going as soon as possible.’
