Manager Dave Carter felt his team did enough to get something.

'We didn't do enough to win it but at the same time we didn't deserve to lose,' he declared.

'At the moment we don't seem to be getting the rub of the green.

'We didn't play well enough in the first half and were off our game.

'In the second half we played very well but we cannot afford to be a one-half team

'After we equalised with a terrific free-kick, we then gave a sloppy goal away from a throw-in.'

The home side fell behind when the ball spun behind their back four after a tackle and Paulton striker Ryan Gay rounded Jake Hallet before shooting home.

Kieran Roberts levelled matters four minutes after the break with a terrific set-piece strike.

It was the visitors, however, who grabbed what proved to be the winning goal on 65 minutes through Will Hailston.

Steve Hutchings had a late chance for the hosts but a defender robbed him at the last second.

'We are not playing particularly badly at the moment,' said Carter.

'Things are just not dropping our way.

'I am confident that this will change sooner rather than later.'

Moneyfields turn their attention to cup action on Tuesday when they host AFC Bournemouth in the semi-finals of the Hampshire Senior Cup (7.45pm).

The tie is held over from last season due to the pandemic. The winners face either Southampton Under-23s or Eastleigh in the final.
