Pompey were playing their first league game at PO4 since October 23.

They gave the Fratton faithful plenty to cheer about, with Pompey fans in high spirits in the second period.

And Whatmough felt it was a performance that thoroughly deserved all three points.

The centre-back said: '˜It was a good performance. First and foremost we wanted to keep a clean sheet tonight and then we always know we are going to get goals.

'˜Defensively it was a good performance and on the attack we looked dangerous. Overall it was a good night.

'˜When they had their spell in the second half, that's when we have got to ride the storm and overcome it.

'˜We know what is going to come. Every team we play is going to have a 10-15 minute spell.

'˜They had it, we had to just come through it and we came out with a clean sheet and a win.'
