And Kenny Jackett believes the striker will find the playing time he’s searching for if he stays put at Fratton Park.

The 26-year-old has been restricted to five appearances with fans clamouring to see more of the attacking talent.

With a congested fixture programme, Jackett sees Hiwula featuring more frequently if he stays put.

Jackett said: ‘Jordy’s contract is up on January 20.

‘There’s been no discussions, but I do like Jordy and would want him to stay and be a part of it.

‘I think he’s been a little but unlucky in terms of game time and he’ll be frustrated with the game off.

‘But if you look now with the games coming thick and fast it’s hard to believe he won’t get an opportunity when the games restart.

‘There’s nothing in concrete discussions, but his contract is up on January 20 and we will definitely be speaking to him next week.

‘You can’t see a way that he won’t get game time with the games coming up. That’s the case right the way through the squad.

Despite his lack of playing time, Jackett explained he’s a fan of Hiwula’s attributes and feels the former Manchester City trainee brings something different to his options.

With John Marquis and Ellis Harrison his main rivals for playing time, Jackett highlighted Hiwula’s speed as a strength.

He added: ‘I like his pace and I like his finishing and he definitely adds something to the squad.’
