Yeovil Town v Pompey: Away-Day Guide

STADIUM: Huish Park, Lufton Way, Yeovil, Somerset, BA22 8YF.

The Glovers’ ground has a capacity of just under 10,000 and most Pompey fans will be behind one goal on the uncovered Copse Road terrace.

Those who were there in October 2012 will remember 90 minutes of continuous rain, so will no doubt be hoping for a dry day this time.

There are also some away seats in the Screwfix Community Stand.

Directions: The ground is located on the outskirts of Yeovil and is signposted from all major routes.

By car, if you are travelling down the A303, leave at the Cartgate roundabout and take the A3088 towards Yeovil.

Follow the road for around four miles until you reach a roundabout on the outskirts of Yeovil with the Westland’s Airfield directly in front of you.

Turn left at this roundabout and then continue straight on, crossing a number of roundabouts.

As you pass the entrance to an Asda superstore, take the next left for the ground, which can be seen from the road.

Alternatively, if you are driving down the A35 via Dorchester, enter Yeovil on the A37 then turn left on to the A30, West Coker Way.

At the next roundabout take the second exit onto the A3088.

At the second roundabout take the second exit on to Bunford Lane and then at the next roundabout take the first exit on to Lufton Way.

PARKING: There is a car park at the ground behind the away end with a £2 charge. Pompey fans should follow the visiting-fans signs and enter the car park via gate A off Lufton Way.

There is likely to be a long wait to get out after the game.

Alternatively, there is plenty of street parking in the nearby roads and industrial estate.

nearest train station: The nearest station is Yeovil Junction.

Trains run hourly from Portsmouth and the journey take just over two hours with a change at Salisbury.

The station is about five miles from the Huish Park, so it is best to get a taxi – or there is a ‘Hopper’ mini bus which will take you to the bus station in Yeovil town centre.

WHERE TO EAT AND DRINK: One of the nearest pubs to the ground is The Arrow, Abbey Manor Park, BA21 3TL.

The pub is in a new-looking residential area about 15 minutes walk from the ground.

Also about 15 minutes from the ground is the Airfield tavern, Alvington Lane, BA22 8UX.

Further away, about 1.3 miles, is the Bell Inn, which is a Hungry Horse pub with a large car park.

It can be found at 207 Preston Road, BA20 2EW.

A favourite of former Trust chairman Ken Malley, this pub serves breakfast from 11am.

All three pubs serve food. Pompey fans should note the marquee bar at the ground will not be admitting away fans.


PREVIOUS MEETINGS: Pompey’s only previous league visit to Yeovil resulted in a hard-fought win.

In 2012, goals in either half by Izale McLeod and Gabor Gyepes gave the Blues a 2-1 success with the Glovers’ only goal coming from the spot courtesy of Reuben Reid.

The two teams did meet last season in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, when two goals from Jed Wallace and another from Craig Westcarr gave Pompey a comfortable 3-1 victory.

With both of those games being played in the evening, this will be the first competitive Saturday afternoon fixture.
